Density hydrometers DIN 12 791 are devices for measuring the density of liquids in the laboratory in the range from 0.600 g/cm3 to 2,000 g/cm3. The hydrometer design is a hollow cylindrical glass vessel sealed at both ends. A cylindrical hollow rod, closed from above, is soldered to the upper part of the housing, inside of which a paper strip with a hydroometric scale applied on it is glued. The lower part of the hydrometer body is filled with ballast, which informs the hydrometer of its vertical position when immersed in liquid. Hydrometers are available in two versions: without a thermometer and with a liquid or mercury thermometer built into the body of the hydrometer.
